We consult with you to help you understand the existing problem and what testing is needed to confirm or assess the diagnosis or prognosis.
We conduct diagnostic testing to get additional information and insight into the implications of the cancer that your pet carries. Some of these diagnostics may include:
- Blood tests and urinalysis in house and external labs (+/- pathology review)
- Body mapping and measuring of masses, lesions
- Fine needle aspirates of masses and associated lymph nodes
- Tissue biopsy – tru cut, wedge, punch
- Bone marrow aspirates
- Radiographs
- Ultrasound
- Pre chemotherapy heart evaluation
- Lab testing for lymphoma, leukemia, mast cell tumor, melanoma, bladder and prostate tumors
- Advanced imaging – CT scan
We present you treatment options. Depending on your pet’s age, quality of life and implications of diagnostics, various treatment options may be recommended, including:
- Curative intent to palliative or hospice care based on the needs of the patient and can include:
- Chemotherapy – injectable or oral and can range from daily to weekly to monthly basis at home or at the clinic
- Immunotherapy for melanoma and osteosarcoma
- Metronomic chemotherapy
- Pain management and prevention
- Palliative care
- Supportive care for the day or overnight based on need
- Surgery for mass removal, excisional biopsy, amputation
Cancer Care for Your Companions.
- We are a part of your pet’s care team. We will work with your primary care veterinarian as part of your pet’s healthcare team
- We are Board Certified – What does this mean for you and your pet? Dr. Melissa Parsons is a member of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the Speciality of Oncology. After becoming a veterinarian, members have gone on to complete a Rotating Internship, often an Internship in Oncology, three years of residency training, passed a series of formal exams and written a publication.
